Kelly's Knob Lookout - Thegoowiyeng
Overview
Kelly's Knob provides spectacular 360-degree views of Kununurra and is a great spot to sit and watch the sunset at the end of another exciting day in the East Kimberley.
Located on the northern outskirts of town, off Speargrass Road, Kelly’s Knob is the highest point in Kununurra and offers an excellent viewpoint of the township, the Ord River, Lake Kununurra, Elephant Rock, the farmlands, Mirima National Park, and the distant ranges.
From the car park it is a 1.2km round trip to the highest lookout for the 360-degree views. From the carpark walk around the low gate and follow the road up until you reach a locked gate (no access). Turn right and follow the path to the top. Allow around 20 minutes and enjoy the views as you go. Some parts of the climb can be challenging for some so it is recommended to wear sturdy shoes and take some water with you. The impressive views by day are even more so at sunrise, or in the evening as the sun sets and the sky glows across the vast panoramas.
The lower lookout which offers 180-degree views is on the righthand side at the top of the carpark and follows a short rocky path formed in the natural rock.
Kelly’ Knob was named after the Catholic Priest, Father Kelly however its Miriuwung name is Thegoowiyeng.
