The Big Croc
Overview
Say hello to 'The Big Croc'
If you enjoy impressive town entry landmarks, you’ll be thrilled by the giant Crocodile Statue in Wyndham. As you drive into this historic port town, the welcoming smile of the statue is hard to miss from the roadside. Standing 20 meters long and 3 meters high, this concrete saltwater crocodile offers a unique photo opportunity.
The statue was crafted using a photograph of a crocodile and advanced computer technology to map its shape. It was constructed with the assistance of students from Halls Creek Technology of Advanced Further Education (TAFE). While its size is somewhat exaggerated, it serves as a strong reminder to avoid swimming in the crocodile-infested waters surrounding Wyndham.
Wyndham, founded during the Halls Creek gold rush in 1885, is located an hour’s drive from Kununurra, which is a three-hour flight from Perth.
