Elephant Rock/Sleeping Buddha - Thethebeleng

This distinctive rock formation, known as Thethebeleng to the Miriwoong people, is also referred to locally as Elephant Rock and The Sleeping Buddha due to its shape and size.

Officially named Carlton Ridge, this large rock formation on the edge of town is best seen in town as a side view of The Sleeping Buddha from Celebrity Tree Park or Lily Lagoon. From this angle, the rock resembles a peacefully sleeping Buddha.

From Packsaddle Road or while cruising along the upper Ord River towards Lake Argyle, the rock’s shape can be seen as resembling an elephant's head.

Late afternoon views are particularly impressive.
